Whether you just bought a new home or you’re looking to stage, it’s important to get that closet space under control. There’s a good chance that you were too busy unpacking to think about organizing your clothes when you first moved in. We’re here to tell you that that’s okay! But now, you’re going to need these 3 critical closet organization hacks. Follow along and let us know what we missed in the comments below!
Hack #1: If you don’t have room, make room!
Ok, let’s get real about your closet… can it really ever be big enough? It doesn’t seem like it! That’s why when you’re dealing with a small closet space, you need to make your own room. We’re talking storage space, people. Hang your clothes up high and then add dressers, baskets, bins, and shoe racks. Baskets and bins can be perfect for holding accessories, shoes, or even your dirty laundry. A dresser allows you to utilize as many drawers as you’re willing to purchase. Lastly, shoe racks can be used for the obvious, but don’t be afraid to get creative with them! Hang one on the back of the closet door to store jewelry, handbags, scarves, or even bowties!
Hack #2: Hang your clothes on your clothes!
This may seem like a crazy notion but trust us, it’s fool-proof. First, you’ll need to find hangers that are made just for this hack. On the base of the hanger should be a small hook – where you can hang a second hanger. Purchase a few of these and try to stack two shirts at a time. Another method, which is a little more for storing winter clothes, is to simply layer your clothes on hangers. Put one article of clothing on one hanger and keep adding to that hanger until it can no longer support the weight without bending. It’ll clear up space in no time.
Hack #3: Divide and conquer the closet!
When it comes to separating your folded clothes on a shelf, it can truly be a nightmare. That’s why we recommend shelf dividers. You can finally stack piles of folded laundry in your closet without the worry of knocking them down every time you need the pair of jeans from the bottom of the pile. It’s also important to organize your clothes by type. Shorts, pants, shirts, underwear, and everything else should all be neatly divided. That will certainly help the next time you can’t find a pair of clean socks.
