If you’re like us at the Massey Team at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Elite Properties, then you had all spring to cut the grass and pick up tree branches from those nasty storms. Now it’s time to get outside and relax. Remember, summer is right around the corner and you’ll want to enjoy it. What’s our suggestion for doing so? Celebrate summertime on the patio. If you don’t quite know how to do so, here’s 6 ways to do just that!
Host a Cookout
If you cook it, they will come. Seriously though, who doesn’t enjoy a summertime cookout on the patio? Flip your burgers, or meatless alternative depending on what you’re into, and invite people over. Set up lawn games like cornhole or washers to keep your guests busy while you grill. Then, practice your conversation skills by talking about more than how hot it is outside. No one needs to be reminded of that fact.
Listen to Sports on the Radio
For the first time in a long time, hockey is being broadcasted on the radio due to the championship games. There’s a lot of action going across the air as our birds and notes have a game at least every other day. Sitting outside with a slight breeze and closing your eyes to hear our top-notch broadcasters will put a smile on your face in no time.
Attract the Birds
Speaking of red birds, maybe bird watching is your way of celebrating the summer weather. Your patio is actually a great place to invite your bird friends. Setting up bird baths, houses, and feeders will really draw a crowd. Want to get more creative? Try attracting hummingbirds with feeders that hold simple syrups. There’s just something so relaxing about seeing nature in your own backyard.
Keep the Bugs Away
One of the added benefits to attracting birds is that they will help keep the bugs away. This effort is also a great excuse for adding more decorations to your patio space. Look into purchasing citronella torches or candles, which repel mosquitos in particular. Angie’s List provides a few lovely ideas on DIY outdoor décor to keep bugs away.
Upgrade Outdated Patio Furniture
There are plenty of reasons why you should upgrade outdated patio furniture. First, it doesn’t maintain its aesthetic appeal forever. Check for rust, peeling paint, or even holes. Alternatively, keep the old furniture and buy new accessories to improve its look. Second, your furniture may not be as supportive as it was when you first bought it. Don’t let your grandmother be the one to sit down and find out the hard way before you do.
Add Flowers or Start a Garden
Now that you’ve got an upgraded seating area for you patio, give yourself a reason to keep going outside. By adding flowers or starting a garden, you can be sure to find yourself needing a place to rest after a hard day’s work. It’s not as easy as it looks. Flowers and plants don’t just need water and sunlight to grow – they need care, too. Don’t put them outside and forget about them!
