The weather in the Metro East St. Louis area is really heating up, but nothing beats the 90 degree weather than laying on a beach somewhere tropical! If that isn’t an option for you this summer then bring the beach to you by giving your home a tropical makeover!
Okay, it may not be as great as going on an amazing getaway, sipping a cocktail, and watching the sunset, but it can definitely give your home a whole new feel! This may be just the new look you needed to make your home have that “wow” factor this summer.
Family Vacation Photos: Displaying memories made with your family is always great, but how you frame the photos is what will make them stand out. Use papyrus paper or a tropical themed paper as the matting surrounding the picture. You can also use a light wood or worn wood frame to enhance the tropical theme. When displaying the photos on a shelf or table, be sure to put a few seashells around the photos to really give them that maritime touch!
Table Runners: For all of the tables in your home, whether big or small, use a woven beach mat as the table runner. The color mimics the hue of sand and the woven grass will remind you of a grass skirt. You’ll feel like you’re at a luau in no time!
Kitchen and Dining Room Chairs: This is not an area people typically think of often when it comes to accenting their home, but in reality, this is your secret weapon! Reupholstering your chairs can be a costly expenditure, but if you use a cloth napkin instead, you can change the chairs’ fabric as often as you want! Simply take a cloth napkin (in this case a tropical floral print works best) and sew large beads to the corners. You will want to sew on ribbon ties to the napkin so you can tie it to the back of the chair. The beads will then act as weights to help secure the napkin!
Table Settings: This is always a great way to bring fun to your home! You can be really creative when it comes to table settings. Add a splash of color by using a mix of colorful plates like blue and green. For something really unique, braid long blades of grass and tie them around the napkins as napkin holders. You can also use the same napkins as you used on your chairs to bring your nautical look together. For your center piece use bright tropical flowers in a funky vase to really make your home seem like an island escape!
Flowers, Plants, and All That: Give your home a tranquil setting by including flowers and plants. All it takes is a few cute little pots and your favorite greenery! You can set them throughout your home or you can have one area designated to your mini in-home garden. You can also set your favorite reading chair by them and using it as your place to read, write, or relax!
Just because you can’t make it to the beach this summer doesn’t mean you can’t bring the beach to you! After a few easy changes made to your home, you’ll feel like you’re away on vacation EVERY day! Check out more decorating tips here.
